To make this blog worthwhile, I included some design tips, finishes, and a bunch of home décor, furniture pieces and lighting suggestions that will elevate your nursery room's design.

I also aim to help ease up and make your nursery room's renovation process fun and exciting.

Designing a nursery for your baby girl is an exciting and joyous experience. Whether it's your firstborn, second, or even third, renovating your baby's room can also be stressful when not planned well and ahead of time.

From my first blog about designing and remodeling a baby boy's nursery room, I can't stress more that every detail matters, from choosing the room, finishes, lighting, furniture and preferred theme to incorporating more minor elements such as selecting decors, furnishings and even pillows and rugs.

I know that sounds like a lot of details. But again, if planned well, this process can be fun and fulfilling. We all want the best for our little princess, so let's start.

1) Choosing the Perfect Paint Color

The right paint colour sets the tone for the entire nursery. Soft pastel shades like blush pink, lavender, or mint green create a calming and soothing atmosphere. Consider using non-toxic, low-VOC paint to ensure a healthy environment for your baby.

Teaberry (SHERWIN WILLIAMS)

The Teaberry SW 6561 from Sherwin Williams is soft and almost like cotton candy pink. This colour is perfect for an accent wall in the nursery room. But if you're feeling bold, this can also be the overall wall paint colour; you can use neutral colours on draperies and furniture to tone down the room's vibe.

Inspired Lilac (SHERWIN WILLIAMS)

If you want that playful and vibrant energy in your nursery room, this colour is perfect as your overall wall paint. It's modern and you can easily match it with any furniture and décor; plus, you can almost smell lilac flowers just by seeing how vibrant this paint colour is.

Gumdrop (BENJAMIN MOORE)

How about some sweet apple-flavoured candy? The Gumdrop by Benjamin Moore has that fresh tone that will create a calm and relaxing atmosphere in the room. This might be intense for some, but I thought this is one of the best colours to go bold and playful with the nursery room.

If you don't have any preferred colour or are uncomfortable with painting the walls with specific colours, such as those I mentioned, you can opt for white-painted walls. You can pick a warmer white tone to create a more relaxing environment.

Also, white walls or even white wainscoting are the easiest to pair with accent wallcovering, furniture and decors.

Pink Damask (BENJAMIN MOORE)

If you're leaning more on the white and almost neutral side, you can try Pink Damask by Benjamin Moore. It is soft yet has a subtle pink blush, making it on the warmer side of white.

Chantilly Lace (BENJAMIN MOORE)

If you want more like silky and cottony white, one of the go-to colours is Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. It's clean-looking and leans more on the warmer side of white; this is one of the best white paint colours for wood wainscoting.

2) Embrace Wallpaper

Wallpaper can add a whimsical touch to your baby girl's nursery. Opt for delicate floral patterns, cute animal prints, or a subtle geometric design.

You can use peel-and-stick wallpapers, which are easy to install and remove once your child grows and you decide to upgrade to a new wall finish.

I'm sure there are thousands of wallpaper or vinyl wallcovering out there to choose from, and this is where the stress can start: selecting the "perfect" wallcovering as an accent for your walls. As mentioned at the beginning of this blog, choosing your preferred theme or overall colour scheme for the room is vital.

Try to list at least two to three themes and brainstorm them with your partner or friends; once you've decided on the final design concept, I assure you the following steps will be easy.

Are you thinking of a customized wallpaper? Almost everything is possible when it comes to wallpaper design; it is costly but possible. Tons of manufacturing companies do custom prints for their wallpaper.

You can have your baby's nickname on it or your favourite photos or character from a children's book. However, if you're more budget-friendly, below are some of my suggestions that will add a fun and exciting accent to your baby's room.

Safari Inspired Wallpaper (SHOP ON AMAZON)

The Safari-inspired wallpaper is easy to install (and easy to remove). The wallpaper features different safari animals such as lions, giraffes and elephants and can cover up to 56 square feet of wall. It is perfect if you plan to do a boho-inspired nursery room- a stunning match for wooden (walnut finish) furniture pieces and decors.

Black and White Dog Wallpaper (SHOP ON AMAZON)

Some moms and dads dislike decorating their nursery rooms with pink floral patterns and want to do something neutral. The Black and White Dog wallpaper is an excellent choice if you want the room to be stylish and modern. Since it will make the space cool, you can add warm colours by using wood-looking luxury vinyl planks on your floor or wood finishes for furniture pieces.

Watercolor Rainbow Wallpaper (SHOP ON AMAZON)

How cute are the rainbows on this wallpaper? What I like about this peel-and-stick wallpaper are the variety of colours and rainbow patterns. I also like the tiny random hearts and raindrops between the rainbows- everything on this wallpaper makes you smile.

Flower Wall Decal (SHOP ON AMAZON)

Installing wall decals instead of wallpaper is an easy option to add features or designs to your wall. The daisy wall decal can easily match any wall paint colour mentioned above. I just thought I needed to include a wall decal (plus, this pattern is super cute) to note that this can be an easy option if you don't want to install wallpaper.

3) Flooring Options

When it comes to flooring, consider comfort and practicality. Luxury vinyl flooring is my best suggestion for this specific room; it's easy to clean and durable.

Most luxury vinyl flooring has a high resistance rating, meaning it's difficult to scratch, especially if you constantly move furniture inside the room.

Most houses in Canada, particularly in Calgary, have broadloom carpet flooring in most rooms. Removing and changing this type of floor can cost you a lot of money.

You may opt to have it cleaned and add rugs instead. Area rugs can be the best flooring accent, plus it's an additional comfort for moms while standing and carrying their babies.

Starfloor Click Patchwork (TARKETT)

The luxury vinyl tile, Patchwork from Tarkett, offers a playful pattern of wood planks. I like the matte finish and the realistic look of the wood- plus, vinyl tiles are easy to install and maintain.

Bunny Diamond Pink (LMCUSTOMSCARPETS)

The Bunny Diamond Pink by LM Custom Carpets is a custom-made carpet flooring or rug. It has repetitive diamond patterns with pink and white colour combinations; they also have different options of fabrics for this carpet- I recommend the PET- Recycled Polyester because it is durable and easy to maintain.

Animal Nursery Area Rug (SHOP ON AMAZON)

If you plan to retain your existing flooring (carpet or vinyl), you may opt for this playroom area rug with large animal patterns and subtle grey, white and turquoise colours. Measure the room first to ensure the carpet fits before buying it.

Nursery Rainbow Round Area Rug (SHOP ON AMAZON)

Another rug that you can use is this washable round accent rug. It is more for flooring accent and offers comfort but is not as comfy as other thicker rugs- the pattern and colour are perfect for dark-coloured furniture and decors.

4) Furniture Selection

Now that you've finalized your wall and flooring finishes, you can move on to the most exciting part- shopping for furniture pieces. Invest in functional and versatile furniture pieces that can adapt as your baby grows.

A convertible crib that transforms into a toddler bed, a changing table with ample storage, and a comfortable rocking chair are essential for a baby girl's nursery.

You must also consider the furniture's design, construction and finish. Most cribs are made of solid wood and painted in different colours; white is the most common because you can easily match it to the overall theme.

The wood laminate finish can also be a great option to add warmth to the room.

Convertible Baby Crib (SHOP ON AMAZON)

This convertible baby crib can be adjusted as your child grows; I like how you can convert it from a crib to a day bed and a toddler bed. It also has a mid-century look, which is excellent for all nursery room themes.

Combined Crib and Changing Table (SHOP ON AMAZON)

If you want to save as much space in the nursery room, you may want to look for multipurpose furniture such as this all-in-one crib and changing table. The crib can be converted as your child grows, plus the convenience of having the changing table and storage attached to it.

Nursery Glider and Ottoman (SHOP ON AMAZON)

Regarding rocking chairs for moms, comfort should come before aesthetics. This glider and ottoman set has very comfortable cushions and a padded armrest- the side pockets for magazines or any reading materials are also a plus factor. The wood finish and blush pink fabrics are stunning for any baby girl's nursery.

5) Window Treatments

Choose window treatments that allow for both privacy and light control. Sheer curtains paired with blackout blinds or shades offer flexibility in adjusting the amount of natural light entering the room.

Some textile companies offer drapery or curtain fabrics for baby's room, usually with colourful designs and materials.

You can also consider using cute curtain rings and valances with fun patterns and vibrant colours. Again, ensuring it matches your wall colours and design features is essential.

If not, you can try making it a feature with a contrasting colour from your overall colour palette. Some options below might work for your baby girl's nursery room project.

Rainbow Pom Pom Curtains (SHOP ON AMAZON)

This sheer curtain is perfect if you want something light or airy for your nursery room. You can match it with matte black or chrome curtain rods; measure your window to ensure the two-panel curtain will fit before purchasing it.

Boho Rainbow Curtains (SHOP ON AMAZON)

If you're looking for something fun and bold (maybe vintage), this boho-inspired rainbow curtain can be a great feature in your room. When using this pattern, you can opt for bright and pastel solid colours for your walls to ensure the room will not look too busy.

6) Lighting

Create a warm and inviting ambiance with soft lighting. Install a dimmer switch to control the brightness and use a combination of overhead lighting, table lamps, and wall sconces to create a cozy atmosphere during nighttime feedings or story time.

Instead of installing standard chandeliers or regular wall sconces, you can be more creative and install lighting fixtures that look like toys, puzzles or clouds. Just make sure that they're not just decorative but functional as well.

Below are some cool lighting ideas that you might want to check- I thought they're enjoyable, cute and practical at the same time.

This height-adjustable pendant light is excellent for a modern or contemporary nursery room. The white feather looks airy and soft- great if you're looking for a clean yet stylish hanging light fixture.

Cherry Blossom Glass Hanging Lamp (SHOP ON AMAZON)

This gorgeous stained glass pendant light is an excellent feature in girls' nursery rooms. It works with LED bulbs and dimmer switches- plus, I like how this light fixture is still applicable even if your child is all grown up.

7) Personalize with Wall Art and Décor

Adding décor and artwork can be fun and exciting, similar to furniture shopping. This is the time to add your personal touch to the nursery, such as a wall gallery, prints or paintings.

Incorporate cute and whimsical décor items like stuffed animals, toys, and personalized name signs to make the space feel special.

Ensure that all wall-hanging frames and decors are adequately secured. You can also install wooden shelvings to display small decors and toys.

Make sure not to hang anything on the wall beside your baby's crib. Something can fall in the crib and can cause a choking hazard.

Another suggestion on how to decide on nursery room décor is letting your guests or friends from your baby shower pick the best décor for you; you can let them know the theme of your room and, of course, the gender of the baby, which hopefully gives them ideas for their gifts (décor or toys).

Ample storage is essential to keep the nursery organized. Utilize baskets, bins, and shelves to store diapers, toys, and clothing. Opt for furniture with built-in storage, such as a dresser with spacious drawers or a bookshelf with cubbies.

The key to a perfect (or almost perfect) way to organize your baby's stuff and yours is to plan where everything goes in the room properly.

Sketching a floor plan is the best way to do it (I know, I should have mentioned this at the start of the blog); this will give you a clear overview of how much storage you can bring into the space, built-in or as furniture pieces.  

Toy Storage Cabinet (SHOP ON AMAZON)

Display shelves like toy storage cabinets are practical if you want an open storage for stuff that you and your baby always use. I also like that it has two drawer compartments, which are helpful to lessen clutters in the room.

Toy Organizer and Storage (SHOP ON AMAZON)

If you want something playful or adorable to store her toys and everyday needs, this truck-shaped organizer is something you may want to consider. It has drawers and bins, which are large enough to organize and hide all clutter in the room.
